President’s Message – April 2024

Hello and Happy Spring SME members,

Each year SME hosts SME Live, an engaging seminar for sales and marketing professionals in our community to attend and gain knowledge about topics related to our field. On April 23rd we are doing it again at Topeka Civic Theatre this year. SME Live has fabulously fun speakers lined up with Dan Lindquist – a local talent opening the morning. He is followed by Eric Herrera of Kolbe Corp, the company known for assessment of an individual’s personal instinctive conative strengths. Individual ticket sales ($100 each) are now open to the public and may be purchased on our website. Please promote sales of tickets as much as you are able. Remember, this is one of our two annual fundraisers and every ticket sold contributes to the overall success of the event.

We are seeking SME members to volunteer to staff SME Live during the first hour. They will aid in moving attendees quickly through registration, breakfast and seating. Volunteers will need to arrive before the doors open at 7:30 am to be stationed as greeters, work the registration table, or direct traffic through the breakfast buffet. Volunteers would then be released to grab breakfast and sit back to enjoy the experience of SME Live! If you are willing to help, please let Hospitality Committee Chair – Chase Copeland, or Beth Mathews at beth@smetopeka.org, or any SME Board member know of your willingness to assist.

Speaking of SME Live, can we have a round of applause to celebrate Mike Eichten and all the good work he has done to orchestrate this important event for SME? Mike chairs the Events Committee and SME Live. He is being recognized as the March Executive of the month. Please join me in congratulating Mike and thanking him for all he has done to put this together for our organization. It is a huge benefit to each of us as SME members.

Have you made plans to bring a prospective member guest with you to the dinner meeting? That is one of the best ways to recruit a new member and help SME grow. And if you want to compete for a prize in our spring membership drive contest – this is the best time to invite a guest. We are entering the 2nd month of our membership drive contest and at the time of this writing, Mike Eichten and Rick LeJuerrne are tied for first place. Scroll down in the newsletter to learn details of the Spring membership drive contest. You could be the big winner in the end!

The final High Performance Seminar of the year is set for Tuesday, May 14 at noon. Kathleen Hein, CSP, Senior Business Development Manager at Premier Employment Solutions, will share her expertise in networking and leadership. Thank you to Scott Van Genderen for offering to provide lunch catered by MongoQ BBQ and to Chris St. John for the venue. Sign up here to attend. If you sign up to attend, please be sure to mark your calendar and save the date/time to be there. While this is free to members and their guests, food is ordered based on the number of people signed up to attend, and we don’t want to waste resources.

This month will be such a fun meeting with three local entrepreneurs, Jessica Horton, Michael Odupitan and Jeremy Poling forming a panel to share their thoughts about sales and marketing from a small business perspective. We may have a lot of guests attending with the membership drive contest in full swing. Please come with your questions ready to probe and explore this topic together. I look forward to seeing everyone on April 2nd!

No foolin’, regards,

Jeannie
